Buying Polar Fleece Fabric in Rolls: GSM, Width and Roll Weight
Manufacturers buying polar fleece fabric should specify these five things before placing an order.

Polar fleece fabric is used for blankets, bedding, jackets, caps and many handloom products. If you buy it in rolls for manufacturing, a clear specification avoids surprises when the fabric reaches your cutting table.
1. GSM
GSM (grams per square metre) tells you how heavy and thick the fabric is. Lighter fleece suits linings and light bedding. Heavier fleece suits blankets and winter bedding that needs to feel substantial. Choose GSM for your end product, and check it on the sample.
2. Width
Fabric width affects how efficiently you can cut your patterns. Tell your supplier the width that suits your product sizes to reduce wastage.
3. Brushing and finish
- One-side brushed: soft on one face, flatter on the other.
- Two-side brushed: soft on both faces, common for blankets and bedding.
- Anti-pill: a finish that reduces small fibre balls forming after washing.
4. Colour and print
Solid dyed fleece is the most common. Printed fleece is available for bedding and blankets. Ask about shade consistency between rolls if you need to match colours across a production run.
5. Roll weight and packing
Polar fleece is usually sold by weight. Confirm the approximate roll weight, how rolls are wrapped, and how weight is marked so your store team can check deliveries.
Questions to ask your supplier
- What GSM and width are available in my colours?
- What is the MOQ per colour?
- How long will dispatch take?
- How are rolls packed and labelled?
