How to Wash and Care for Polar Fleece Bedding
A simple care routine keeps polar fleece soft for many winters. Share this guide with your customers.

Polar fleece is one of the easiest bedding fabrics to care for. Follow a few simple steps and duvet covers, dohars and fitted sheets stay soft and bright for many seasons. Retailers can share this guide with customers or print it on the care label.
Washing
- Wash in cold or lukewarm water on a gentle cycle.
- Wash dark colours separately the first time.
- Use a mild liquid detergent. Avoid bleach.
- Turn covers inside out to reduce pilling.
- Do not overload the machine. Fleece needs space to move.
Drying
- Dry in shade or on a low dryer setting.
- Avoid high heat, which can flatten the fibres and make the fabric feel rough.
- Polar fleece dries quickly, so it is usually ready the same day.
Ironing
Polar fleece rarely needs ironing. If you must, use the lowest setting and do not iron directly on the brushed surface.
Storage
- Make sure bedding is completely dry before storing.
- Store in a cotton bag or breathable cover, away from direct sunlight.
What about pilling?
Good quality fleece with an anti-pill finish resists pilling. Gentle washing and low heat drying are the best prevention. Read our polar fleece GSM guide for what to check when buying.
