Starting a Private-Label Bedding Brand in India

You do not need your own factory to build a bedding brand. Here is how to plan products, samples, labels and packing with a manufacturer.

Bedding packed with custom brand labels

Many successful bedding brands in India do not own a factory. They design the product, build the brand and sell it, while a manufacturer produces the goods under their label. This is called private labelling, or OEM manufacturing. Here is how to get started.

1. Choose a focused first range

Start with a small number of products that sell well and are easy to explain. In winter bedding, a polar fleece duvet cover set, a quilt cover and a fitted bedsheet with elastic make a strong starting range. Decide your sizes: double and king usually sell first.

2. Decide your brand basics

  • Brand name and logo (check trademark availability)
  • Colours and fonts for labels and packing
  • Price position: value, mid or premium
  • Sales channels: marketplaces, your website, retail shops or wholesale

3. Plan labels and packaging

Private-label bedding normally includes a brand label, a size and wash-care label, a hang tag or insert card, a poly pack and carton marking. If you sell online, check marketplace rules for product labelling, including MRP, manufacturer or marketer details and country of origin.

4. Approve a sample

Never skip this step. Your manufacturer makes a sample with your fabric, print, size and labels. Check the feel, stitching, measurements, labels and packing. Once you approve, the sample becomes the standard for bulk production.

5. Understand MOQ

Minimum order quantity depends on the product, the number of designs and how much customisation you need. Custom prints and printed packaging usually have higher MOQs than stock designs with your label. Ask your manufacturer what is possible at each quantity.

6. Agree timelines early

Winter bedding has a short selling season. If you want stock on shelves for the cold months, place your order early enough to allow for sampling, production and transit. Ask for a written dispatch date.

7. Plan for repeat orders

Keep a specification sheet for each product: fabric, GSM, size, print, label positions and packing. This makes repeat orders faster and keeps quality consistent.

How we work

Our private label process has six steps: enquiry, sample, approval, production, quality check and packing, and dispatch. See the full process or send us your requirement.
