How to Start a Bedding Wholesale Business in India
Bedding is a steady category with repeat demand. This guide walks through the steps to start a bedding wholesale business in India.
Bedding is bought by every household, replaced regularly and has strong seasonal peaks. That makes it an attractive category for new wholesalers and online sellers. This guide covers the practical steps to start a bedding wholesale business in India.
1. Choose your segment
Decide who you will sell to: retail shops in your city, online marketplaces, institutions (hostels, hospitals) or a mix. Each needs a different product mix and price level.
2. Start with a focused product range
Start with a few products that sell reliably and expand later. For a winter-focused business, a good starting range is:
3. Register your business
Most wholesale buyers need GST registration so they can buy with GST invoices and sell to registered retailers. Speak to your accountant about the right business structure and registrations for your situation.
4. Find a reliable manufacturer
Buying directly from a manufacturer usually gives you better consistency and faster repeat orders. Read How to choose a bedding manufacturer in India for a checklist.
5. Sample before you buy
Always approve samples of every design. Wash one sample to check colour fastness and shrinkage, and check the stitching and packing.
6. Plan stock around the season
Winter bedding sells in a short window. Order early and re-order often. Our winter bedding ordering calendar shows a month-by-month plan.
7. Consider your own brand
Once you have regular buyers, selling under your own label builds loyalty and protects your margins. See private label bedding manufacturing.
8. Sell and collect feedback
Ask your retailers what sells and what does not, and adjust the next order. Small, frequent repeat orders reduce dead stock.
